SignPresenter is a digital signage platform that turns any TV into a sign. Businesses, churches, schools and offices use it to display menus, announcements, schedules and promotions, with content updated remotely. The US-based company serves customers in many countries.
SignPresenter had used HubSpot for signup emails, onboarding sequences and customer tracking for several years. As its contact list grew, so did the cost. Important account data also lived on HubSpot company records, which made it awkward to use in automation.
The team wanted full ownership of its data, predictable costs and a direct integration with the SignPresenter application. Mautic’s open source, self-hostable architecture made it a clear choice.
SignPresenter deployed Mautic in Docker on a single server. It upgraded from Mautic 5.2 through 6.0 to 7.1 in June 2026 while preserving its contacts, campaigns and emails.
The application submits Mautic forms when customers sign up or account information changes. Contact data is updated in real time and customers move between segments automatically.
The team rebuilt 19 campaigns and more than 90 emails using Mautic segments and campaign conditions in place of HubSpot enrollment workflows. During the cutover on July 2, 2026, new signups were directed to Mautic while HubSpot workflows were limited by signup date. This avoided duplicate or missed messages, and HubSpot was cancelled on September 6, 2026.
Postmark handles email delivery, with bounces and unsubscribes synchronized hourly. A watchdog checks the server every two minutes, and the database is backed up offsite every night.
HubSpot cost $515 per month, or $6,180 per year, and included a 2,000-contact limit. The Mautic setup costs about $25 per month, comprising a $10 Hetzner server and about $15 for Postmark. That is approximately $300 per year, a 95% reduction, with no contact limits. Even after SignPresenter’s $1,200 Community membership, the total cost remains about 75% lower than HubSpot.
Mautic gave SignPresenter the open source, self-hostable foundation it wanted, with direct control of customer data and infrastructure. Its flexible segments, campaigns and forms supported a real-time integration with the SignPresenter application without imposing contact limits.
The platform also made costs predictable while allowing the team to manage monitoring, backups and email delivery using the services that best fit its needs.
SignPresenter completed the migration without missing or duplicating signup emails. It now manages more than 6,000 contacts, 19 automated campaigns and more than 90 emails in Mautic for about $25 per month.
The company plans to continue building on Mautic and help others move from HubSpot. During its implementation, SignPresenter also identified a contact-tracking bug that could cause a crash when a tracked contact had been deleted. It submitted an upstream fix in pull request #16122, which was approved in review. SignPresenter became a Community corporate member in October 2026.
